Hi!

My name is Kristian, I’m a twenty-something year old electronic music enthusiast from Norway. Making electronic music is an amazing way to share the strange and wonderful things I see in my mind. Creating worlds of sounds makes me feel like a wizard.

For those who are curious about how I got into making electronic music, check out my 11 stages of learning music.

The blog’s purpose: Daydreaming, rather than technology

I write about imagination, envisioning and fun with electronic music. Why? What’s wrong with music production magazines and forums? They focus on the technical aspect of making music, and how to copy others. And they’re boring.

Can you imagine your 8-year-old self debating which crayons or drawing techniques are the best? No! You’d just grab a sheet of paper and draw that time-travelling dragon with oversized sunglasses and a funny tie, or whatever else entered your mind. I encourage you to have the same attitude towards music – it’s far more rewarding for both you and whoever is listening to your music. You’ll automatically be motivated to improve the technical bits as a consequence of all the fun you’re having.

You can either make a track thinking “128 bpm electro house with techy synths and sidechained white noise” or “This is what ogres and unicorns partying hard with Lil Jon in his lazer crib before blasting off to the moon in a giant banana spaceship sounds like”. I’m 100% certain which track would be the most fun to both make and listen to.

Below are a few articles I have written, which I think can help many music producers, including myself when I lose focus.

  1. The visual aspect: Music is more than you hear – Don’t think about what you hear; think about what it makes you see.
  2. Dreaming isn’t dead, it’s just been forgotten – Rant on how music could be taught far more efficiently and enthusiastically.
  3. Don’t be a music producer, be a wizard! – Always wanted to have magic powers? You already do!
  4. Perfectionism vs. appreciation of current abilities – You’ll never reach perfection – enjoy the moment to its fullest!
  5. Stop taking yourself so seriously – You’re not the next JMJ (Jean-Michel Jarre). JMJ was the only next JMJ. You’re the only next you.
  6. Stuck? Make something silly – This is how I made music in 2000, as well as now, and it’s so much fun.

I hope to hear your thoughts on these subjects. My reason for starting this blog is to expand my mind and learn new things.

Also, say “hi” to me on SoundCloud if you’re there! :)
